    Denim Shorts

Summer's almost over, and I just wanted to sqeeze in a post on how to get the most use out of a pair of denim shorts. Now that the dog day's of summer are over, you don't just have to throw on that pair of shorts with a tank and flip-flops and hope not to pass out from the heat anymore. Now you can make an edgy fashion statement and use that pair of cut-offs as a vital accessory.

.. or free if you cut off an old pair of jeans yourself.

^^ While its still warm enough out but not sweltering, wear the shorts like you normally would, but with something loud and fun like leggings of a bright color or loud pattern. Its easy to try a flirty/fun/playful look with denim shorts because the nuetrality of the denim allows the bolder accessory to stand on its own without looking like too much going on at once.

^^ As the weather cools down a bit, try pairing the shorts with a pair of opaque leggings and stilletto boots for the perfect contrast between casual and classy.
    grunge
^^ A really casual almost 'grunge' look is accieved by pairing the shorts with one of those plaid shirts I've posted about in the past along with flat boots or Converses and runny stockings.

     jacket
^^ A slightly sexier take on the grunge/punk look would be to switch out the plaid and band t-shirt for a leather jacket (see my post on jackets) and something shimmery or sequined. The shear stockings (see my post on tights) add a classier element.

^^ In order to make a pair of denim shorts a lot more sophisticated and rule out the 'trashy' element of them all together, try pairing them with a blazer. The first look is for a cooler day. Pair the shorts with darker colors, opaque stockings and a sleak pair of stilletto boots. The second photo shows how to lighten up the look for a day when its warm enough to show some skin, but windy enough to keep your shoulders covered.  For this look, try lighter colors and switch out the tights and boots for strappy sandals or espidrills.
