Animal Print

Its loud, its obnoxious, it's gaudy, and its BACK! Animal print used to bring up connotations of over-dressed cougars and Fran from The Nanny to me... It still does, but that's all a little less of a turn off now I guess... The idea is to wear this treand in moderation! It's easy to accidentally go overboard, so try and stick to the basics and don't wear more than two accessories or one main piece of clothing with this print at a time. Here are a few options for you depending on what kind of girl you are.

(A)$12.99 Target (B) $9.99 WetSeal (C) $9.99 WetSeal

(D) $10.00 Walmart
(A) This shoe is for anyone. Spicing up a very simple outfit is as simple as putting on these shoes. Simple, cute, and understated.
(B) This is for a girl who likes casual comfort and style. If you just want to throw on a t-shirt and jeans, you can still look daring with a little animal print.
(C) This is for a night on the town. Its very bold and overstated, so pair it with a pair of black pumps (and black leggings if you're modest) and leave it at that! This dress says enough on its own!
(D) These skinny jeans are for a girl who likes to turn heads on her way to class, or who wants to spend her night on the town with warm legs. This is a dress-it/up-dress-it-down piece. Pair it with a plain t-shirt in the day time, or switch in heals and a sexier top for a night time look.
^^Here is what I did with the shoes I got from Target and a scarf I found in clearence at WetSeal for just $3.
^Lets start with something simple. This look (submitted by Mercredi) is as easy as 1-2-3. This t-shirt (similar the the one above from WetSeal) is simple enough, yet easily makes a bold statement on its own. It's particularly unique because rather than using just the animal pattern, an actual leapard is incorperated as well, making it stand out more than other things in this category.
^^Slightly more flashy, but easier to find in stores is a t-shirt that is made entirely of a bold but uniform animal pattern. A form-fitting zebra shirt is sexy enough on its own, which is why this look can be worn with a simple pair of jeans or denim shorts and immediately be appropriate for going dancing or partying, even without the usual 'going out' accessories such as pumps, jewlry, or a skirt. The shirt says enough on its own.

^^ The next step is taking a smallish accessory and making it the main statement of the entire oufit. For a casual every day look, throw an animal print scarf over a basic jeans and t-shirt oufit. Creat more of a night time 'going out' look by using somthing sexier, like the thigh-highs and pairing it (again) with something plain and nuetral-colored like the white dress and black stilettos.
^^Animal print tights are really in this year. Here are a few very simple looks using the shear tights version. For a warmer day, pair with a simple long shirt. On a cooler day, add a sweater and other acessories to taste.
^^There are also the cotton leggings version for colder weather (and more coverage). These are easier to work with because they're opaque, making it okay to wear as pants. Pair them with a nuetral-colored long shirt or tunic for a casual, unerstated look...
^^Or do something a little more lively if you dare.
^You can even make a sexy evening or party look with these leggings. confessi0nal was lucky enough to find leapard print shoes which add a splash of bright color to the outfit. All the same, she still followed the basic rule of thumb to make the dress a nuetral black so as not to go overboard.
^^I love the leapard mini-sweater trend! It's an easy way to spice up an otherwise boring outfit. Just shrugg one on for a day when you would be wearing a t-shirt but it's windy and you'd like to keep your shoulders warm, and suddenly your outfit is flirty and more outgoing. (Second two photos submitted by Je_Veux andconfessi0nal).

^^An animal print tunic says A LOT. Pair something like this with nuetral colored leggings and accessories for a dressed up or down statement.
^^For 'going out' dancing, most shoppes are now carrying these cute nightware tunics. You can wear this tube-top as a dress if you're daring, or with jeans if you're more of a modest girl who still likes to look hot.
^^But animal print one-pieces are more widely accepted as eveningware. A short animal dress sthands on its own COMPLETELY. The only accessories needed for something this loud is a nutral colored pair of shoes, belt, or small, understated jewelry items.
^^ Lastly, if you're a really daring girl, and you really like to turn heads, do something wild and playful for a fun occasion. For the right event, you can toss the 'nuetral rule of thumb' to the wind and pair your animal print with other bright, flashy colors and textures. Have fun with it, just be aware that all eyes WILL be on you ;)
^^ ... And this is the perfect example of how NOT to wear animal print... ew.

nice looks ! I actually have some leopard print tights, but I never knew what else to really pair with. Now I have ideas ! :D
I'm not a huge fan of animal print, and of mostof those pictures in fact (personal opinion). I think Mercredi '(second picture of women) it look good, but it is a bit gross on some toher pictures. Especcially... the last one ! lol
I love it ;)

I like it, it's obnoxious, but still fun in moderation.
:)
I don't feel right in animal print myself, it just feels like one of those things that other people can pull off but I can't. The closest I've come to owning anything animal print is a zebra print dress that I tried on. (I only tried it on because when I was trying on something else there was a girl trying the dress on and it looked great on her). It just didn't work for me though : (
lol where'd you find the last pic :P
Really cute post!
Sorry I haven't submitted my photos for this one, but I'll try and do so for the next. x
Ah, I'm starting to somewhat like animal prints again. I thought I was over it...but I want those grey animal print tights now! Great post! & i'm loving the fact that you used pictures from actual readers. It's innovative and fun :)
sorry but I would never wear cheetah print with zebra print.. even if both are in moderation. Other than that, the pictures && advice are greattt.

love this post! i don't own anything with animal print but thanks for all the ideas! now i want an animal print cardigan :D
I want a pair of animal print tights now. And I've been wanting to try an animal print tunic for a couple of weeks now. I might give it a go.
blame it on the recession -- or a lack of creativity but most of these girls are just about as fashion forward as Uggs, which, if you understand anything about you'd giggle and tell the girls they belong back in 2006.
and no offense ladies, throw out your leggings, they are about as classy as a a box of wine and a strip club. tights are the latest rage.

:3 hey. my last comment did not go thru = =
anyways, i love animal print. it's a good alternative to florals or plaid. all three prints are fierce tho.
i'll leave my whole photoblog to you bc i'm not sure how this works. :D
I love all of your blogs!
Oh my god I LOVE YOUR SITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This site is awesome! I happen to suck at fashion, so I'm glad you are giving such great advice! Just wondering... considering this blog was about animal print, I actually saw a cute Dooney and Bourke animal purse today and I LOVED IT! Of course, it's $150 and more than I can afford and/or willing to spend. I wonder if maybe you could find an alternative? I know it's an accessory, but if you could find a cheaper alternative or suggestion it would be sooo awesome!
